Choosing the right method
The methods open to you depend on your location, your currency and the size of the transaction. They are shown when you create your transaction.
Large transactions
Wire transfer is normally the practical choice above a certain size. Funds are confirmed once they reach the Rbcpay account, and the seller is notified at that point.
Everyday transactions
Card, ACH, Zelle and Interac e-Transfer are convenient for smaller amounts. Limits may apply depending on the method and where you are.
Cross-border transactions
Where the buyer and seller are in different countries, the available methods narrow. Contact us before creating the transaction if you are unsure.
One rule that overrides everything on this page. Whichever method you use, the payment goes to Rbcpay, never directly to the other party. If anyone asks you to send money to them personally, to hand over cash outside the transaction, or to pay by a method that is not shown in your Rbcpay account, stop and contact us. Payments made outside a Rbcpay transaction carry none of the protection described on this site. Read more on fraud prevention.
What happens after you pay
Payment is the second step of five, not the end of the process. Your money stays with Rbcpay until the transaction is complete.
- Rbcpay confirms receipt of your payment
- The seller is told the funds are secured and can proceed
- You inspect what you received within the agreed period
- Only after your approval is the seller paid
- Once released, the payment is final and cannot be charged back
Receiving your payout
Once the buyer approves and Rbcpay releases the funds, the payment is final and cannot be reversed through a chargeback. The time it then takes to reach your account depends on the payout method you selected when the transaction was created.
- Payout method chosen when the transaction is created
- No chargeback exposure once the sale completes
- Fees can be paid by the buyer, the seller, or split
Payment questions
When is my payment confirmed?
Payment is confirmed once the funds have reached Rbcpay. The seller is notified at that point and should not ship anything before it. A message or a screenshot from the other party is not confirmation.
Can I change my payment method after starting a transaction?
Contact our support team before funding the transaction. Once funds have been received, the method cannot be changed.
Are all methods available everywhere?
No. Availability depends on your location, your currency and the size of the transaction. Zelle and ACH apply to users in the United States, and Interac e-Transfer applies to users in Canada. The methods open to you are shown when you create your transaction.
Are there limits on how much I can pay in one transaction?
Limits may apply depending on the funding method, your location and the transaction size. Any limits that apply are shown when you create the transaction.
Who pays the Rbcpay fee?
The fee can be paid by the buyer, the seller, or split between both. This is agreed before the transaction begins, and you can see the exact figures on the fee calculator.
What currencies are supported?
The currency of a transaction is agreed by both parties before payment and cannot be changed once the transaction has been funded. Contact us before creating the transaction if the currency you need is not offered.
